99. New Moon was not the first sequel to Twilight.
According to Stephenie Meyer's website, Twilight had a more defined ending. She then wrote a three part 100 page epilogue. Not tiring of the Bella and Edward story, she turned these epilogues into Forever Dawn. Once she received word that Twilight was going to be published, Stephenie needed the sequel to be more YA friendly. She finished Forever Dawn, gave it to her sister, and began writing a proper sequel. That sequel is NEW MOON.
